Day 2 Early departure to experience the Best of Costa Rica tour. On the way to the first attraction, the Poas Volcano, you will enjoy an authentic cup of Costa Rican coffee accompanied by a delicious tropical breakfast. On a clear day the view of the main crater is admired by all visitors, its diameter is considered one of the widest in the world. Day 4 Breakfast and to enjoy the Rain Forest Aerial Tram. The Rain Forest Aerial Tram is a unique eco-tourism and research facility that takes visitors floating through the rainforest canopy, with its hanging garden of plants and animals high in the tops of tropical trees. The 2.600 meter (app. 8,530 ft.) tram ride takes about 90 minutes. On the outbound trip, gondolas travel through the lower and intermediate levels of the forest. The canopy is home to two thirds of all rainforest species, and the Aerial Tram site, on the northern border of Braulio Carrillo National Park, possesses one of the richest canopy communities in the world. Day 5 Breakfast and departure to the Arenal Volcano & Hot Springs tour. The Arenal Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the Americas. Day 6 Departure very early to the Tortuguero Canals tour. Tortuguero is a navigable network of canals, exuberant vegetation, fauna and one of the most important sites for the nesting of the Green Sea Turtle that occurs between July and September. Experience an adventure that begins in San Jose, passing by Braulio Carrillo National Park and banana plantations until the dock. Viper, Snake or serpent…different words to describe these reptiles. Approximately 137 species of them have been identified in Costa Rica of which 22 species are poisonous. The Serpentarium has a display of approximately 42 terrariums where you will observe poisonous and non-poisonous snakes, lizards, turtles, frogs and toads.

The Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is managed by the Board of the Santa Elena Technical Professional High School. It was open in 1992 and all the income is used for conservation, education and research programs.
By visiting this reserve, you are collaborating with all these projects. One of the main characteristics of a cloud forest is their high level of humidity; and due to this humidity, the flora and fauna are abundant and diverse.
As Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is located in the Continental Divide, the warm winds that come from both oceans (the Pacific and the Atlantic) together with the rain precipitation, creates the perfect combination for one of the best cloud forest reserves of Costa Rica.
At the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve premises you will find one of the richest forests in flora and fauna. Different species of trees, orchids, lichens are easily found. Among the birds: the Resplendent Quetzal, hummingbirds, Black guan, toucanet and more. Some mammals are also observed, such as howler monkeys, agoutis, coatimundis, and more difficult to see, the tapir, ocelot, peccary and pumas.
Also, there is a platform from where on a clear day you may observe the Arenal Volcano and its lake. Due to its great biodiversity, we recommend to keep all your senses alert so you can enjoy also the magnificent sounds of the forest. Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve is by far the best introduction to a cloud forest.

Trails, beautiful scenery and impressive biodiversity, have for a long time identified the area of the Ecological Sanctuary. Since it is a biological corridor, it offers an excellent opportunity to the visitors to see a big quantity of mammal species and birds of the zone.
Among the mammals that can be observed are monkeys, sloths, coatis, agoutis, and armadillo; and among the birds: the bellbird, toucans, long tail manakin, woodpeckers, etc. Insects and reptiles are also easily found.

At the Monteverde’s Frog Pond you will find approximately 40 terrariums simulating the habitat for different species of frogs and toads. Admire some colorful frogs such as the famous red-eye tree frog and the blue jean.

Butterflies are among the most beautiful creatures in the world. In Costa Rica over 14,000 species of butterflies have been identified of which, approximately 750 are found in Monteverde.
The Butterfly Garden offers you four gardens simulating different habitats that will show you different species of butterflies found in the country: Lowland habitat - from sea level to 1625 ft (495 m).
This greenhouse is home to the Cracker a grayish-white butterfly, which are the only butterflies that make noise and are able to hear.
Mid-Elevation habitat, preferred by species that live up to 3280 ft (1000 m) along the forest edges. Here you may observe the butterflies feeding on flowers, perching on leaves, or hanging upside down from twigs. Forest understory habitat.
This habitat is cooler, darker and moister than most butterfly habitats and is home to Glasswing butterflies. Highland forest edge habitat, a forest edge environment at 4225 ft (1288 m). Here you can find over 25 species of highland butterflies feeding on flowers and fruit.
This Butterfly Garden also has a nature center where the visitor will learn about other species of insects, such as scorpions, tarantulas, walking sticks and more.

Hummingbirds comprise the second largest and the best known avian family in America, with its 330 species. They are found from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego; however, they are more numerous in the tropics. Besides the beautiful colors, hummingbirds are notable for their small size and fast movements.
They are also known for their nectar feeding which provide them with energy; but they also eat small insects and/or spiders, which provide them with proteins. In Costa Rica you can find over 57 species of hummingbirds. A slide show will introduce you to Monteverde’s natural history.
Different species of flora and fauna are displayed to inform the visitors about the biodiversity of this region.

The Monteverde Conservation League was established in 1986 out of concern for the threatened forest in the Tilaran Mountains.
Since then, children and adults from over 40 countries have raised money which has enabled the league to purchase more than 22,000 hectares (over 54,000 acres) of land, the largest private reserve in Costa Rica.
It is named Bosque Eterno de los Niños (BEN) in honor of all the children who have contributed to its protection. The Monteverde Conservation League is saving an expanse of forest that enriches a community of people and preserves a uniquely diverse ecosystem of flora and fauna.
During the tour you may observe some mammals as coatis, white-faced monkeys, agoutis, and porcupines. Over 150 species of birds may be seen, such ad keel billed toucans, blue-crowned motmots, long-tailed manakins, squirrel cuckoos, and emerald toucanets.

Drive an ATV through private farms and rustic roads that will take you through different small towns.
The tour begins with a safety speech and a driving practice where the tour guides will evaluate the driving skills of all participants. Beautiful landscapes will enhance the tour while driving by Las Nubes, Cebadilla, Los Tornos and La Cruz until your return to the departure place after a 9 miles (15 km) ride.

Sky Trek is a secure system of trails and zip lines, in the Monteverde Cloud Forest that offers visitors the opportunity to observe and appreciate the nature from different vantage points.
Sky Trek is similar to other canopy tours in Costa Rica, but incorporates some significant differences, such as being of larger scale and metal platforms covered with mesh-covered and steel rails which prevent falling or sliding.
